Chester Stewart, 87, of Jenkins, died December 24 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born in Wise County, Va., he was a son of the late Matthew and Bertha Killen Stewart, and the widower of Ruth Mullins Stewart. He was a brother of the late Ruby Stewart Brown and John Stewart.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was a demolition expert and combat diver from 1945 to 1947, and was retired from Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md., after 45 years.
Mr. Stewart was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He belonged to the Patapsco Masonic Lodge #183, and was also a member of Shriners International.
Surviving are a daughter, Darnillia Sanders and husband Danny of Jenkins; two grandchildren, Mark Taylor of Sparrows Point, Md., and Chantel Pennepacker and husband Sanders of Dundalk, Md.; and two great-granddaughters, Mariah Taylor of Baltimore, Md., and Madison Pennepacker, of Dundalk, Md.
Funeral services were held December 30 in Dundalk, Md. Burial was in Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Md.
