Christmas on the Hill at Blackey

We would like to invite everyone to the annual Christmas on the Hill at the Old Indian Bottom Church building at the Frog Pond at Blackey on Saturday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite party food to share.

The church building is one of the oldest buildings in Letcher County. The church was established in 1810 and the old church building was built in 1900.

The old church building has been through many phases, but whatever happens that old church building stands on the hill like a beacon that I look at every day from my front window, and I never fail to think of all the history that old building holds and all the preaching that has been there.

The first Christmas program was held 18 years ago and there wasn’t electricity in the building, and at the end of the program Ron Short was singing “Christmas Time A’Coming” and it started snowing and that was special.

Ron Short and friends always put on a good program and it will bring back memories of how Christmas used to be. It will get you in the Christmas spirit and you will get a blessing.

They will also have a singing the first Saturday each month at 7 p.m., with a potluck dinner. They have good singing and everyone is welcome, and the Spirit is still there, so come visit.
