Coach Rupp returns to Whitesburg

The Whitesburg Rotary Club will presents a benefit dinner and show on Tuesday, March 24, with the Kentucky Chautauqua program featuring Edward B. Smith as University of Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp. Smith, a professor at Georgetown College, brings to life the largerthan life architect of college basketball’s winningest program. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room of Community Trust Bank in Whitesburg. Smith’s historically accurate impersonation of Coach Rupp follows.

Tickets are available from Whitaker Bank (606- 633-8200), Community Trust Bank (606-633-0161), and Summit City (606-633- 2715), all three in downtown Whitesburg, or from Whitesburg Rotary Club members. Advance tickets are $20 March 17. Tickets will be $25 after March 17 and at the door. Mail orders may be sent, with checks payable to Whitesburg Rotary Club, to Whitesburg Rotary Club, P.O. The “Dinner with Coach Rupp” is a benefit for the Meryl Brown Rotary Scholarship. Each year the fund helps two Letcher County students pursue college education.
