Coal Camp Christmas set in Prestonsburg

“A Coal Camp Christmas” will be presented before the Kentucky Opry’s Christmas shows at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg. The exhibit depicts a coal camp house living room Christmas scene circa 1930s. It includes a fireplace mantle, rocking chair, coffee table, end table, and oil lamps, and a live cedar Christmas tree decorated with string popcorn, picture ornaments and cotton balls representing snowflakes.

Thirty minutes prior to each Kentucky Opry Christmas Show, Basil Clark shares six different Coal Camp Christmas stories that he developed. The storytelling is 15 minutes long and ends with him inviting everyone to join in singing “Away In a Manger”.

The schedule for the remaining Kentucky Opry shows is:

Saturday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 14, 3 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 21, 3 p.m.
