Coal firm wants 71 miners hired

Patriot Coal will accept applications from experienced coal miners for 71 available underground mining, surface/prep plant and salaried positions in western Kentucky and northern West Virginia at an upcoming job fair in Hazard.

Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E.) and the Kentucky Coal Association (KCA) will host the job fair on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kentucky Career Center JobSight, 412 Roy Campbell Drive, Hazard.

Patriot Coal officials will be present to accept resumés, conduct interviews, and discuss job opportunities available at their operations in western Kentucky and Fairview, W.Va. The company is seeking only experienced “ black hat” miners at the job fair.

Of the 71 positions available, 59 are in western Kentucky. These include: 42 underground mining (miner operator, maintenance UG, equipment operators, face/ support), 12 surface/prep plant (welders, mechanics, plant operators), and 5 salaried positions (production and safety supervisors).

An additional 12 salaried positions will be available in West Virginia, including production, maintenance, and longwall production supervisors.
