Cold weather cancels church services

We sure had a cold weekend with not much going on. Carl Bennett came over and we had lunch together. Church was called off at Little Cowan and probably other places as well due to the very cold weather. It makes a long day but I really would have dreaded to go out. There are more ball games going on than anything else. Obama and Clinton are most of the news on TV. I enjoy the gas fire logs during the winter for extra heat.

A few spring flowers are in bloom despite the cold weather. Springtime will soon be here.

We miss a lot of our people who would come by even if the weather was cold. Many people visited in our home over the years. Most of them are gone now. We always had a good Sunday dinner and nearly always had company.

I believe my age group who are left have seen more changes than any other generation.

My mother, the late Annie Vermillion Caudill, was a wonderful cook. Her fruitcakes were very special and she enjoyed making them. She took a lot of pride in her cooking.

My father was very kind and good to her. He would say, “There will never be another woman bragged on as much as you.” We had a good home life growing up.

Mason Keith Lucas was born Feb. 22. His parents are Melinda and Jonathan Lucas, grandparents Linda and Don Lucas. Little Aiden loves his “baby brother.”

Sue, Pam, Nicole and Haley Banks visited Amanda, Tyler, Kyle and Katie Gale. They had good weather and a good time visiting and shopping. They shopped at very wide spot from Whitesburg to Lexington, Fort Henry in Covington, and back home, through every mall and strip mall to Whitesburg again. Now they know what “Shop till you drop” means!”

Sue was happy to hear from her cousin, Judy Ann Reynolds Puckett, in Winchester. She sent pictures of Sue’s mother, Verna Flanery, as a teenager and some of Sue and her brothers and sisters when they were children.

On Saturday, March 22, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Whitesburg Lions Club will be hosting an Easter egg hunt at the Eolia Park. There will be prizes and an Easter bonnet contest.

I don’t have much news so I will close with love and best wishes to all.
