Come on home to Blackey

The Blackey Day Committee met July 20 at the Blackey Library. Our theme this year for Blackey Day is ‘Coming Home to Blackey,’ and that is what we want to encourage you to do — come home for Blackey Day, Oct. 16.

We are trying to make this the best one ever. Violet Watts and her helpers have got an outstanding musical lineup from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

We have some awesome talent in eastern Kentucky, and they are choosing the best of the best to entertain us for Blackey Day.

We will have inflatables for the children and the Shriners train provided by Letcher County Judge Jim Ward

We have a good lineup for our silent auction, which is always fun. If anyone wants to donate to the silent auction, call Kathy Back, 633-4183.

We will have food and craft booths, and if you want a booth, call me at 632-3777 or 606-791-8796, and I will be glad to set you up with one.

We will have cakewalks and lots more fun things.

Letcher County is one of the prettiest counties in Kentucky. The mountains surround us and protect us from the wind, and in the fall, the mountains look like you are driving through a flower garden, the colors are so brilliant.

So if you will come to Blackey Day, not only will you meet and greet friends and family, you will have all the fall beauty to see and enjoy.

So plan a trip to Letcher County for Blackey Day, Oct. 16. You won’t be disappointed.

Memories of growing up in and around Blackey are so precious to me. It’s a frame of mind.

So bring a chair and come and spend the day with family and friends. You will leave with a gladness in your heart from being with friends and family.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Blackey Improvement Committee meetings. If you want to work, we would love to have you. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m. at the Blackey Library.

For more information, call Loye Caudill, 633-4029.
