Congress is coming to West Virginia to hear directly from relatives of victims of the nation’s worst coal mining accident in 40 years.
The U.S. House Labor Committee says it’s planning to take testimony from family members of miners at Upper Big Branch mine at a hearing in Beckley on May 24.
Twenty-nine miners died and two were injured when an explosion ripped through the sprawling Raleigh County mine April 5. Federal and state regulators are investigating the explosion, which occurred at the mine owned by Richmond, Va.-based Massey Energy Co.
The hearing is scheduled for the U.S. District Courthouse in Beckley.
