July 20 — Karaoke will take place at the American Legion Post on Pine Mountain every Friday beginning at 9 p.m. Attendees must be 21 years old or older. For more information, call 633-2834.

July 21 — Minnie Adkins Day, which celebrates the renowned folk artist with a folk art, fine art and crafts festival, will be held at the Little Sandy Lodge, 1916 N. KY 7 & 32 in Sandy Hook. The set-up fee for the event is $10. For more information, call (606) 738-5515.

July 26 — Free Naloxone kits and training to use them will be available at the Letcher County Health Department from 2 to 6 p.m. Naloxone blocks or reverses the effects of opioid medication, including extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, or loss of consciousness. Attendees must be at least 18 years old to receive a kit. There also be free HIV testing and free Hepatitis C testing. The training is sponsored by the Kentucky Pharmacists Association, Kentucky Public Health, the Kentucky River District Health Department, and Help End Addiction for Life. July 27-28 — The Seventh Sons’ 50th anniversary party will be held at McRoberts Ballpark, 58 B Ball Drive, McRoberts. The event will include live music, food, and drinks. Camping is available. July 28 — The Special People Advocating Recovery in Kentucky (S.P.A.R.K.) Recovery Rally will be held on the Letcher County Courthouse steps and on Main Street in Whitesburg from 1 to 4 p.m. The event, hosted by Letcher County Attorney Jamie Hatton, will include music, testimonies, kids’ activities, resource tables, a balloon release, and free hotdogs, chips and drinks. There will also be a walk for recovery, a speaker on Casey’s Law and a celebration of recovery. For more information, contact Angela Trent at (606) 633-9588.

August 3 — HLT Check Exchange will host a Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include free school supply packs, free food and drinks, face painting, and other activities, a registration to win one of two backpacks full of school supplies. For more information, call 633-3143.

August 11-12 — A weekend of shape note singing will be held at the second annual East Kentucky Double All-Day Singing. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Campus at Letcher on Saturday, and at Hemphill Community Center on Sunday. Childcare is available upon request. The singing is free and open to the public and everyone is welcome.
