Scrip Collectors Association will meet at the Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg beginning at 8 a.m. Scrip was used as a medium of credit by employees of coal and lumber industries as an advance against the employees’ pay. Office, 478 Extension Drive, Whitesburg. Staff members of the Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky and local attorneys who assist with federal black lung claims will be at the meeting to provide information and answer questions. All retired and active miners, widows, spouses and others who are interested in working with the local chapter of the National Black Lung Association to improve the black lung laws for miners and their dependents are requested to attend. . October 20 — The Harlan County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual gala at 6:30 p.m. at the Harlan Center. The theme is Harvest the Growth.
