November 19 — Appalachian Strings will play at Country Cabin II in Norton, Va. The show will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old.

. November 22 —The National Black Lung Association will meet at 2 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office, 478 Extension Drive in Whitesburg. Staff members of the Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky and local attorneys who assist with federal black lung claims will be at the meeting to provide information and answer questions. All retired and
active miners, widows, spouses and others who are interested in working with the local chapter of the National Black Lung Association to improve the black lung laws for miners and their dependents are requested to attend. . December 9 — The Letcher County Extension Office will sponsor a holiday bazaar at the County Extension Office in Whitesburg from noon to 9 p.m. Attendance is free to the public. Crafts, gift ideas, lovingly used holiday ornaments and decorations, bake sale items and handmade items will be available. Soup and salads will be for sale.
