May 20 — Lewis and Clark Circus sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Jenkins. Shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Mini Park next to Jenkins High School. Advance tickets $10, at gate $15. May 20 — Voting for the parent members of Letcher County Central High School’s Site Based Decision Making Council (SBDM) will be from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the school office. The council consists of the principal, elected teachers and elected parents who make many of the decisions about how the school works. The parent members of the council are elected by the parents, receive training and serve one-year terms. Results will be announced (and a runoff held if necessary) at 6:15 p.m. in the school office. May 21 — Craft day, soup bean supper, square dance at Carcassonne Community Center. May 21 —Mountain Heritage Festival Committee to host character breakfast at Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Characters are Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, the Flash, Olaf and a minion. Cost is $10 per child. Parents admitted free with a paid child admission. Cost of parent breakfast is $5. Dress as your favorite character. Face painting, balloon art for $5. May 28 — Coal Miner’s Memorial Homecoming and Candlelight Ceremony. Open mic at 3:30 pm. Dawson Creek at 4:30 p.m., Mountain Melody at 6 p.m. Candlelight ceremony for fallen miners at 7:30 pm.
