May 17 — The National Black Lung Association will meet at 2 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office. The featured speaker is Dr. Lee Petsonk, former team leader of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Black Lung Program, and currently Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at West Virginia University. Staff members of the Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky and local attorneys who assist with federal black lung claims will be at the meeting to provide information and answer questions. Retired and active miners, widows, spouses and others who are interested in working with the local chapter of the National Black Lung Association to improve the black lung laws for miners and their dependents are requested to attend.
