June 2 — The Letcher County Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon at Las Penas restaurant in Whitesburg. All Letcher County teachers, retired, or retiring, are invited to attend.
. June 2 — A program to build more active communities will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office. Mark Fenton will speak about economic, environmental and public health and attendees will participate in a walk audit. The program is free to preregistered representatives of local city and county government, businesses, health coalitions, bike and pedestrian committees, planners and engineers, and others working toward policy and environmental changes to support active living. June 3 — Benny Jones Band will play at the Country Cabin in Norton, Va.; from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old. For more information, call 276- 679-3541.
. June 6 — The Kentucky River District Board of Health will meet at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at Ponderosa in Hazard.
. June 14-17 — The Letcher County Central High School cheerleaders will host a cheerleading camp from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the LCCHS gymnasium. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., June 14. The camp is open to ages three years old through eighth grade. Focus will be on tumbling, motions, stunting, sideline and floor cheers. Refreshments will be served and participants will receive a free camp shirt. Applications may be picked up at the LCCHS offi ce, from any cheerleader or at Community Trust Bank.
