January 20 — Appalachian Strings will play at Country Cabin II in Norton, Va. The show will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old.
January 23 — The Southeast Kentucky Chapter of the National Black Lung Association will meet at 2 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office, 478 Extension Drive, Whitesburg. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Respiratory Clinics of Eastern Kentucky staff and local attorneys with experience assisting with federal black lung claims will be present to answer questions and provide information.

Hall, a veterans benefits field representative, will be at Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation in Whitesburg from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month to assist veterans and their dependents in filing for federal and state veterans benefits.
