March 15 — A meeting open to all American Electric Power customers will be held at 6 p.m. in the Circuit Courtroom in the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg. March 17 — A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at American Legion Post 104, 104 Coal Ave., Neon, (606) 855-4814. The dinner is dine in or carry out and the cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and 3 and under free. The meal includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert, and beverage. All proceeds will benefit the Ladies Auxiliary.
March 17 — Appalachian Strings will play at Country Cabin II in Norton, Va. The show will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children 2 to 11 years old.
March 17 — A breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be held at Pine Mountain Grill from 8 to 11 a.m. Children will enjoy an unlimited breakfast buffet complete with bunny-shaped pancakes and a pancake topping bar. The event will include pictures with the Easter Bunny, an Easter egg hunt and a special bunny gift bag. Pictures will be taken by Letcher County photographer Tonya Creech Aslinger. Admission is $15 per child, $10 for the buffet for parents. Proceeds from the breakfast will go to the Letcher County Tourism Commission. After visiting with the bunny, participants may shop at the neighboring Southern Bliss of Whitesburg and Pine Mountain Outfitters, where 10 percent of sales on March 17 will go toward Letcher County Tourism. March 23 — The Letcher County Tourism Commission, along with the Challenger Learning Center of Kentucky and the Appalachian Astronomy Association, will hold an Evening Among the Stars on Pine Mountain from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on the property of Truth Ministries, located at the entrance of Little Shepherd Trail. Festivities will include: 7 to 8:30 p.m., Create your own rockets and see how far they can launch; 8:30 to 10 p.m., Observe the night sky through the lens of astronomical telescopes and see wonders that are out of this world, including the moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Orion, Orion’s Nebula and the Pleiades. Live music will also be provided. The event is free to attend, but donations are welcome. Hot dog kits and s’more kits will be available for purchase for $1 each to roast at the open fire pit. Drinks will also be available for purchase. Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets and are encouraged to dress for chillier March nights.
March 27 — The quarterly meeting of the Kentucky River District Board of Health will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Hazard.
April 7 — The Letcher County Mountain Crawlers will host a charity ATV ride with proceeds going to I Can Services, Inc. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the ride leaves at 10 a.m. from Sandlick Fire Department. Food and 50/50 chances available. Donations appreciated. June 22- 23 — The Whitesburg High School Class Of 1968 will hold its 50th class reunion. A cookout is planned For June 22 and a dinner on June 23. Letters have been mailed.
