Letcher County’s fall tourism season took a hit this month with the cancellation of the Heritage 2K16 truck show.
The show is normally held in mid-September in downtown Whitesburg, but had to be cancelled this year because of ongoing construction at Food City grocery in Whitesburg, where much of the event takes place.
“Food City has been a strong supporter of the show,” said L.M. “Mike” Caudill, who helps his son Lee Michael organize the event each year. “It’s a good thing they notified us in time.”
Caudill said the truck show, which annually draws hundreds of people from states as far away as California, is billed as “the largest modern truck show in Kentucky.” It is also the second-most attended event held in Letcher County outside of the Mountain Heritage Festival.
Caudill expects the show to return to Whitesburg in 2017 bigger and better than ever.
