Cool weather is taste of winter to come

Northeast Ohio

And a big howdo to all you good people and I do hope you are having a lovely day. The sun is shining here, but it sure ain’t warm. Me thinks fall weather is now showing up to let us know that cold, rain, snow, winds or whatever winter might throw at us are just around the corner. I plan to stay inside, warm and cozy as much as I can.

I want to send condolences to the Hall family who just lost a loved one during Neon Days. He was a cousin to sister-in-law Georgia Sergent (Richard’s wife).

Hello to all in nursing homes, Red’s brother and sister-in-law, Chalmer and Goldie Engle, are in Letcher Manor. Also at Letcher Manor are a brother and sister of Rose Ballard Durham, Wallace Lee Hall and Loretta Hall Church. Also hello to Clyde Hatton at a home in Hazard. Hope and pray that each and every one is improving. What would we do without them and the caregivers who seem to have so much love and compassion. I’m sure it is no easy task. Truly they must be angels in disguise. Bless them!

Saturday was the Letcher County Day picnic and the forecast was for a cold, cold day.

This was not a very good week for Red. He had not felt well all week. It was church time at Little Pilgrim Home in Ruggles but there was no way we could go.

Red pulled up the last of the bean vines and got enough beans for a small cooking. Why is it the first and last mess taste better? Is it because you’ve been waiting for the first and know the last will be all there will be for another year? Course we did can, froze and dried some. We are still having plenty tomatoes. We have decided no garden for next year, but I just might set out one plant in a pot. Too much tiring work taking care of the produce, but once you raise it, you can’t let it go to waste. It will be good this winter anyway. I will use the tomato juice for soups, spaghetti sauce and chili.

I want to say hello to Thelma Watts in Kingsport, Tenn., and to Brooke, Bailey, Abby, Riley and Isaac. I haven’t forgotten y’all, just have had a busy summer. Hope everyone is well and has had a great summer. How is school this year, are you still playing ball? You will be hearing from me soon. Be good. And, Mildred, I didn’t forget you either; bet you are a busy one.

I haven’t even picked up a quilt to work on or done any embroidery in almost two weeks now. I have had a sinus infection (I think). I didn’t see a doctor but sure ’nuff feel miserable. I had a creek running through my head or maybe it was a wind blowing. I still don’t feel up to par but guess I’ll live, I’m planning on 101, yeah! Like we can make such plans; that’s left to a higher power.

Hello to all the Sergent clan, whoever or wherever you might be. Hope all are well, happy and prosperous. Wishing for you and everyone else a mild, short winter.

My brain just went to sleep so I might as well say so long for now. See you next week, same time, same place. In the meantime, have a most happy day and may your life be a most peaceful one.
