Copper thieves risk lives to get just 200 feet of wire

Utility officials in Breathitt County say copper thieves risked their lives stealing from an American Electric Power substation.

Someone crawled under a fence at the Haddix substation over the weekend. They only got about 200 feet of copper wire, but they also stole some tools.

Matt Trail told WYMTTV anything above ground at a substation is clad in iron and isn’t worth much if sold as scrap.
