A Neon man was arrested Monday evening for allegedly selling drugs near an elementary school.
Eric S. Cantrell, 25, of #6 ROTC Drive, Neon, was arrested May 10 by the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department and was charged with traffi cking a controlled substance within 100 yards of a school and third-degree trafficking a controlled substance, Suboxone (first off ense).
Suboxone is the brand name of a combination of two drugs used in the treatment of opiate addiction, buprenorphine and naloxone. While it doesn’t provide abusers with a euphoric “high,” it is being sold on the black market for as much as $20 a tablet to abusers who are withdrawing from harder drugs such as OxyContin.
Lt. Brian Damron of the sheriff ’s department said he and other deputies had received several complaints of a high amount of traffic visiting Cantrell’s residence located about 20 feet from Fleming-Neon Elementary School.
After a month-long investigation using surveillance cameras, the sheriff ’s department and Kentucky State Police troopers executed a search warrant at Cantrell’s residence.
Damron has charge of the investigation.
