Jenkins City Council Member Carol Ann Litts died in Lexington Tuesday from complications of a long illness.

Miss Litts, 60, was the retired owner and operator of The Flower House, a successful florist in Jenkins, and served on Jenkins City Council since 2005.

Jenkins Mayor G. C. Kincer described Miss Litts as a “champion of the old and poor” who also had a deep love for the children of the community. Kincer said she would be missed on the council.

Miss Litts was an avid golfer and was active in the Jenkins Methodist Church. Her brother, Stevie Joe Litts, and her mother, Thelma Hidvigi Litts, survive her. Her father, Raymond Litts, preceded her in death.

Litts was a long time member of the Mountain Heritage Festival Committee as well as an active participant with the Jenkins Homecoming

Committee and other civic activities. She was also a generous donor to various causes in Jenkins and elsewhere in Letcher County.

Funeral arrangements were not yet complete at Mountain Eagle press time.
