County libraries to launch summer reading program

Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to join “Get A Clue at Your Library” at all the Letcher County Public Libraries this week. The summer reading program is open to young people, toddlers through young adults, with programs, prize drawings, story hours, arts and crafts, music, and more.

Registration is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all of the libraries. Each registrant will be given a book log, a schedule, and a prize. The Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library in Whitesburg will also sponsor a Scholastic Book sale through June 8 from 9 a.m. to closing each day.

The kickoff program at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 7, is a presentation by the Madcap Puppets of “Cart Tales”. This is the story of an emperor who will give half his kingdom to anyone who gives the greatest gift to his son. The performance will be at the Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library. A book talk by Nancy Allen, a renowned Kentucky children’s author, will preceded the puppet show.

All programs are free of charge.
