County worker injured

A truck driver for the Letcher County Road Department was injured Tuesday while working on a cemetery road in Gordon.

Luke Craft, 50, of Mayking, was holding a pipeline so a grader could get underneath it when the front grader wheel hit his leg and broke it, said Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward. Ward said the ground was slick and the grader was spinning trying to get back up the hill.

Kentucky State Police said Craft stepped into the path of the grader operated by Jerry Noble, 28, of Deane, while they were working on a cemetery road at Stagger Weed Lane. Police said Noble did not see Craft.

Craft was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn. No one else was injured in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper David Combs.
