Court fires dog warden

Letcher County is again without an animal control officer.

Jessie Fox was fired from the position, referred to by many as “dog warden,” this week after the Letcher County Fiscal Court met in a closed session to discuss a “personnel matter.” The court did not announce why it had fired Fox.

In its meeting held Monday morning, the court also accepted an insurance check for partial payment of damages resulting from a sprinkler system pipe that burst in January. The check from the Kentucky Association of Counties, the court’s insurance provider, was for $25,000 of the $47,930 that will be required to replace a smoke detection and evacuation system that was destroyed during the flooding.
