Court pays workers

The Letcher Fiscal Court this week approved the payment of $4,260 for precinct officers and county election officials who participated in the recent wet/dry local option election in the City of Whitesburg.

At a special called meeting held May 7 the court approved the payment of 12 precinct officers, 1 alternate precinct officer, 5 election tabulators and 4 election commissioners. Judge/Executive Jim Ward along with Magistrates Archie Banks, Codell Gibson and Bob Lewis unanimously voted to pay the officers and officials. Magistrates Keith Adams and Wayne Fleming did not attend the meeting.

The fiscal court took the same action at a May 4 meeting, but had to declare that vote null and void when it was discovered the public and magistrates weren’t given the legally-required notice of the meeting at least 24 hours in advance.
