Court votes to buy lowboy, fix excavator

The Letcher County Fiscal Court voted this week to authorize emergency repairs to a excavator damaged recently during work on a leaking silt dam at Craft’s Colly. The court also voted to buy a trailer to allow for safe hauling of the excavator and other heavy equipment.

Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward told the fiscal court during a special meeting Monday that the excavator suffered heavy damage when a “ball type” trailer attached to a county dump truck turned over after the truck made a turn in a tight space. Ward said the trailer was too small to handle the weight of the excavator. The possibility of more heavy rains makes it important to repair the excavator as quickly as possible, he said.

The court adopted measures declaring the need for emergency repairs to the excavator and the purchase of a lowboy trailer.
