Court votes to combine garbage truck bids

The Letcher Fiscal Court has voted to allow two companies to work together to build two new garbage packing trucks for the county.

The court approved a plan during a special meeting on Sept. 24 to have Prestonsburg-based Worldwide Equipment and Nashville based CMI Equipment Sales, Inc. put a Loadmaster packer on a Kenworth truck. CMI Equipment will provide two 25-yard high compaction rear-loading garbage packers and Worldwide Equipment will provide the two trucks.

The negotiated bid price for each truck is $156,853.

The original bid from CMI Equipment Sales, Inc. was $129,900 for each packer truck and the original bid from Worldwide Equipment was $164,000 for each packer truck.

District Two Magistrate Archie Banks asked Letcher County Attorney Harold Bolling if the court could combine the two offers.

“I sure think you can,” said Bolling. “You get the best of both of them.”

“As long as we are legal I am fine,” said Banks.

The court also:

• voted to advertise for consultant services for an all-terrain vehicle trail project in the county.

• approved payment of $2,000 to Cornett and Associates for GPS work at the Pine Mountain Horse Trail; $500.52 to Hemphill Community Center for a reimbursement; and $450 in prize money to five winners of the Mountain Heritage Festival Skateboard Competition.
