Pine Mountain-Letcher County Craft Co-op will celebrate its 22nd anniversary this month with a grand reopening on Wednesday, April 15. The co-op is located at 331 Highway 119 N., near Pine Mountain Junction.
The co-op began with an organizational meeting at the former location of the Letcher County Extension Office in downtown Whitesburg. The first shop location was in a basement on Main Street in town. After approximately a year and a half, the members moved to the present location.
The co-op was chosen in 1995 to represent Kentucky on QVC’s Home Shopping Channel when it visited the state. It was one of 20 (out of 200 groups statewide) who exhibited their handmade crafts to QVC personnel when they had visited the state previously. They sold 250 sets of hand-quilted wall hangings with handmade wooden hangers.
The co-op is welcoming new members at this time. If you would like to join or learn more about the co-op, come to a meeting on April 21 at 4 p.m. at the Letcher County Extension Office in Whitesburg.
The members invite you to stop in, visit, shop and enjoy seeing a wide variety of crafts, art, antiques and collectibles. If they don’t have it, they will try to find it for you. The phone number is 633-0185.
