Dance team wins ‘Jamfest’ championship




 

 

The Letcher County Central High School Cougar Dance Team is the national champion of the Jamfest Nationals cheer/dance competition held earlier this month Gatlinburg, Tenn. Letcher Central competed in the Varsity Pom Dance catagory, performing Dec. 6 and Dec. 7. The Dec. 6 performance propelled the Cougar dancers into first place for the day, which accounted for one third of their total competition score. The Dec. 7 performance accounted for two thirds of the overall score and was nearly flawless. The championship is the biggest title to date for the Cougar Dance Team, earning the squad a bid to Jamfest’s next level of national competition in Cincinnati. Phelps High School of Pike County placed second. Team members included in the photo above are (not in order) Casey Adams, Allie Morgan, Savannah Fields, Courtney Tucker, Taylyn Combs, Destin Kincer, Emily Hawkins, Hailey Kincaid, Tiffany Yonts, Lauren Fields, Kristen Bentley, Brittney Briggs, Katelyn Mullins, Whitney Cook, Menia Lucas, Allison Combs, Keanna Webb, and Meghan Sexton.
