DAR elects new officers

The Pine Mountain Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at the Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church for their family potluck dinner. Members present were Chairman Marsha Banks, Rebecca Ann Reynolds, Sally Caudill, Nina Craft, Merlene Day, Stella Elam, Shirley J. Whitaker, Kaye Combs Moore, Danna Richardson, Elsie Banks, Patsy Nantz, and Betty Horn.

Guests present were non-resident member, Katy LaMonte and daughter, Sarah, who were visiting from Mississippi, Linda Jarrett, Carl Banks, Gene Horn, Herbert Caudill and Peyton Reynolds.

New officers installed for the next three years were Regent Marsha Banks, Vice Regent Shirley Whitaker and Kaye Combs Moore, Secretary Merlene Day, Treasurer Rebecca Ann Reynolds, Chaplain Sally Fugate Caudill, and Registrar Betty Horn.

Stella reported that Dr. Patricia S. Rowe, C.P., from Taylors, S.C., had bought flags for the Whitaker Cemetery where the Revolutionary War soldier James Caudill is buried. They voted to purchase a flagpole for James Caudill’s flag.

There will be a special called meeting on June 17 at 2 p.m., a business meeting for all new and old officers.

Russell and Minerva Yonts, Duane and Anna Yonts, Joey Yonts, Tim and Jane Yonts, Jim, Candi and Amy and Nick Yonts, Amie Yonts Daniels all went to Dahlonega, Ga., recently visiting Roger and Tracy Yonts, Brooke, Cal and Brittany Caden and baby Cohen, Matt and Jessica Bearden and girls Emma and Maggie, Beth Braswell and Sidney.

The men camped on the river and enjoyed their usual fishing trip. The water was higher than usual. They still caught lots of fish and all enjoyed the big fish fry on Saturday night. The women and children enjoyed a trip to the Aquarium in Atlanta, the shopping malls and downtown Dahlonega. Joey Yonts caught the prize fish this year. Thanks to Isabelle for the use of her wonderful campsite.

Linda Combs is wishing happy birthdays to Yvonne Brown Sutphin of Virginia on May 16, and to twin sisters, Regina Combs Crawford and Ramona Combs Finchum on May 18, and belated birthday wishes to Christine Cornett, May 9. She now lives in Georgia.

Jessica Boggs was graduated from Campbellsville College with honors on May 9.

Yvonne Brown Sutphin’s grandson, Derek Frome, is entering the Marines on May 31. We all pray he will be kept safe.

Richard Brown’s son, Kevin, has just finished barber school. He will be working at Cut-Away with his father. Kevin and Denise are expecting a baby boy in late August.

Arminta Ison Jenkins has returned to Texas after being with her sister, Dana Walker, in Naples, Fla. Dana is battling cancer. Remember her in your prayers.
