David Herbert Banks, 85, died June 15.
Born at Ice to the late Boyd and Celia Banks, he was a brother of the late Estill Banks, Vern Banks, Edison Banks, Orpha Hampton, Ruby Baker and Valma Houts.
He was a Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a master’s degree in education.
He had taught both elementary and high school for the Jenkins Board of Education for 30 years, and was also a principal in the high school.
He was ordained at First Baptist Church in Whitesburg, served at Premium Baptist Church, and was honored as Kentucky Baptist Bi-Vocational Minister of the Year in 1993.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Juanita Meade Banks; a daughter, Carolyn and husband John; a son Paul and wife Gretchen; two grandchildren, Hayleigh Laurann Banks, and Ian Bogdan Gleason; and three sisters, Mabel Banks, Lois Day and Joyce Wampler.
Funeral services were held June 17 at Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Burial was in Banks Peaceful Hills at Ice.
Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
