Davis to read from writings

Willie Davis will read from his collected fiction at the University of Kentucky on March 2. The public reading will take place at Alumni House, near intersection of Euclid Avenue and Rose Street at 3 p.m.

Davis’s fiction has won the 2007 Willesden International Short Story Contest judged by Zadie Smith and the 2007 Katherine Anne Porter Prize judged by Amy Hempel. His short fiction has been published in The Guardian and Urbanite Magazine, and is forthcoming in The Kenyon Review.

A Whitesburg native, he graduated from Henry Clay High in Lexington. He earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and currently teaches English and creative writing at the University of Maryland. Davis has recently completed his first novel, The Darktown Strut, which tells the story of a summer in Hazard.
