Day of Remembrance marked

Sept. 25 is National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. Fayette Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Lawson will host a gathering for families and friends of murder victims at 12 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Crime Victims Monument on the lawn in front of the old circuit courthouse at 215 West Main Street in Lexington.

The National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims was established in 1999 by the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children. It was officially designated by both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives in 2007 as a day to acknowledge the tremendous loss suffered by the families and friends of murdered victims.

Those wanting to attend from Letcher County can call Felicia Wright, victims advocate of the Letcher Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, at 633- 8121.
