Three people could be arrested this week for stealing copper from telephone cable lines near Blackey, said Lt. Brian Damron of the Letcher County Sheriff ’s Department.
Damron said police have tracked the AT&T phone lines stolen from a location on Highway 588 between Blackey and Roxana to a home in Blackey.
Letcher Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison G. Banks II and Letcher County Attorney Jamie Hatton are assisting police in the copper theft cases.
Damron said authorities are investigating the theft of copper, brass and metal grave markers from gravesites in Letcher County.
Damron said that if anyone sees someone removing items from cemeteries or individual grave sites they should contact the sheriff ’s department at (606) 633- 2293 or Kentucky State Police at (606) 435-6069.
