Dispute over Weed Eater led to shots being fired

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting of a Carcassonne man over the weekend.

Adam Henrikson, 44, was taken to Whitesburg ARH Hospital and then transferred to Pikeville Medical Center with a gunshot wound to each leg. Henrikson posted on his Facebook page that a bullet passed through his left leg and lodged in his right knee.

According to accounts from the Kentucky State Police and Letcher Commonwealth’s Attorney Edison Banks, the shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. Friday on Square Dance Road at Carcassonne, and allegedly was the result of a dispute between Henrikson and an uncle, Robert Lee Fugate, 57, over a Weed Eater.

Police said the two had been arguing for “a couple of days” when Henrikson went to Fugate’s house and allegedly attempted to gain entry into the house.

Fugate fired one shot f rom a .357 Magnum through the front door, striking his nephew in the legs.

Police are still investigating and no charges have been filed in the case. Trooper Anthony Trotter is investigating.
