This black bear appeared in the backyard of the Shelton home at Eolia early Tuesday morning. Pat Shelton said the bear “came from the woods around 3 a.m. Our dogs (5 of them) had it treed. We watched it for a while using a flashlight and went back to bed. When we went out at daybreak the bear was still in the tree with the dogs keeping watch. We pulled our dogs back and it came down the tree, but one dog, the smallest, got loose from us and chased it back up the tree. Finally, we tied the dogs and it immediately came down and took off into the woods.” Shelton said low lighting made a clear photograph difficult to capture.
