DONATIONS — Perry County Court Clerk Haven King, who also represents ‘Coal Mining Our Future’, led the Pledge of Allegiance during a check presentation on Oct. 29 held at the Perry County Public Library in Hazard. Coal officials donated $50,000 for cancer research to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society as part of the industry’s “Coal Miners Care — Shine Your Light For A Cure” endeavor. The fund-raising campaign was launched in support of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. On Oct. 29, coal miners across the state were encouraged to wear pink articles of clothing to work as part of the coal industry’s “Paint Coal Pink” program. The Kentucky Coal Academy, TECO Coal, Coal Operators and Associates, Western Kentucky Coal Associates, Coal Mining Our Future, and Friends of Coal participated in the fund-raising campaign.
