Funeral services for Dorothy Ison, 83, of Gilley, were held June 23 at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Puncheon Camp. Interment was in the Howard Lewis Cemetery at Gilley.
A daughter of the late Joe and Mallie Holbrook Williams, she was born in Stoney Fork. She died June 20 at Mountain Comprehensive Healthcare Corporation in Leatherwood.
Mrs. Ison, along with her husband Howard, owned and operated Lewis Grocery at Gordon for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Puncheon Camp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Earthie Turner, Gracie Browning, and Helen Taylor, and seven brothers, Elmer, Eddie, Reavis, Willie, Coolie, Rufus, and Otis Williams.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Howard Lewis; a son, Jerry Lewis and wife Kitty of Slemp; two daughters, Maxine Lewis and husband David and Jeraldine Cornett of Gilley; a sister, Ruth Proffitt and husband Charles of London; a brother, Jimmy Williams and wife Mariann of London; grandchildren, Kim Miller and husband Jamie, Eddie Cornett, Mark Lewis and wife Christina, Shannon Garland and husband Chris, Greg Lewis, and Dwight Lewis and wife Crystal; great-grandchildren, Nicole Bennett and husband Justin, Candi Miller and husband Jon, Reagan Miller, Ezra Cornett, Gage Cornett, and Kaydee Lewis; great-great grandchildren, Macey, Savanah, Keagan, and Elijah Bennett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
