On Friday night, July 9, Drake Brock, this area’s newest talent from Pound, Va., a singer of songs, appeared on the Neon Main Street Stage for a free community performance, thanks to the efforts of the City Of Neon and Rod’s Down Memory Lane/ Letcher County Memories, along with the Neon Lions Club, and an array of community citizens.
Drake Brock is the newest regional talent to grace our area with his singing and guitar skills. He began at 7:30 p.m. and sang until 10 p.m. During his one 15-minute break and after his performance, he and several members of the community shared their interests with one another. The community residents included church members, a council member, and family members and business owners of the Neon area.
Everyone in attendance was spellbound by Brock’s performance and abilities. During his 15-minute break, the crowd and Brock mingled together with some even grouping with him for a mini song fest.
This was one of the most professional and friendliest programs that I have ever witnessed. I have seen only one other local performer several years ago that equaled the type of entertainment that was displayed at this performance. That person went on to other places, as I expect this performer, Drake Brock, to accomplish in the next couple of years.
Brock is only 18 years of age at this time, and as the man said about Loretta Lynn in the movie “Coal Miner’s Daughter”, “She sings her heart out.” And I must say, as well as those that witnessed this performance, “Drake Brock sings his heart out.”
If you were not there Friday night, you really missed some of the best singing and guitar playing the area has to offer. If you don’t know this young man, or have never heard him play, I suggest that you make an effort to be present during one of his performances in the near future. You will not be disappointed.
Drake Brock’s next appearance will be at the Streetside Grill in Whitesburg on Thursday night, July 22, at 7 p.m.
Once again, he and I wish to thank the Neon City Council and the Neon Community for their gracious hosting of “Drake Brock, A Singer Of Songs”.
