Drama class OK’d for ‘Shrek’




Among other business attended to by the Letcher County Board of Education at its December meeting, the board:

• approved a request by the Letcher County Central High School drama class to pay $7,150 in licensing fees to Music Theatre International, an action needed before the class could proceed with preparations for its public performances of “Shrek the Musical” April 18 and 19.

• approved a request by the LCCHS all district band to stay overnight in Paintsville Jan. 16–19.

• renewed mobile home lease agreements with Bob Smith at West Whitesburg Elementary School and Kitty Pratt at Arlie Boggs Elementary. Smith and Pratt are responsible for security at those school sites. Monthly rental cost is $75 and each will receive a $50 credit for providing security.

• approved the financial report presented by Brian Johnson, district finance officer, as well as the payment of bills and transfers and payment of November salaries. Johnson reported that the bank balance on Oct. 31 was $3,346,660.83. The construction fund consists of $225,981.84.
