At least 17 to 20 inches of rainfall during the next three months is needed to help eastern Kentucky pull out of the current drought, according to officials at the National Weather Service in Jackson. Letcher County is 15.47 inches below normal in the amount of rainfall it has received from November 1, 2006 to December 7, 2007, according to Pete Geogerien, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Jackson.
