Eagle correspondent Emma Lou Engle dies



Emma Lou Sergent Engle, 86, northeast Ohio correspondent for The Mountain Eagle, died September 1 at her home in Lorain, Ohio.

On September 2, The Mountain Eagle received word of her death from her son, Bill Engle, who wrote, “It is with regret that I have to inform all the readers who read Emma Engle’s articles all these years that she passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 1. She was at home with her family, the way she wanted it.

“Emma, my mother, really enjoyed writing her articles and also all the calls and letters from all her family and friends.

“I know I will miss her as will all the family.”

Born in Neon, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Polly Ann Taylor Sergent and the mother of the late Bobby Engle. She was a sister of the late Ethel Sanders, Sara Belle Sergent, and Chester Sergent.

Mrs. Engle had worked for various restaurants, and was a member of the Little Edna Church in Sheffield Township.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Willie H Engle; a son, Billy Engle and wife Laredia of Elyria, Ohio; daughter-inlaw, Valerie Engle; three brothers, Richard Sergent and wife Georgia of Sheffield Township, Ohio, Henry Warren Sergent of Murray, and Ronald Buford Sergent and wife Johnella of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Anna Lee Goins of Whitesburg, and Opal Jean Adams and husband Phill of Louisville; five grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren and a greatgreat grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 6, at the Little Edna Church Old Regular Baptist of Jesus Christ Faith and Order in Sheffield Township, Ohio. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst.
