Earl Gibson buried in Indiana




Earl James Gibson, 85, died November 25 at his home at Lily.

Born at Tolliver Town, he was a son of the late Harrison and Nettie Bentley Gibson. He was the father of the late Edith Carol Strege, stepfather of the late George Nolan Scarbro, and brother of the late Edith Bentley, Estill Gibson, Elbert Gibson and Edward Gibson. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Neil and Debbie.

He was widower of Ruby Cornett Gibson and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was retired from LTV Steel. He had lived in Whiting, Ind., for 40 years before moving back to Kentucky.

Surviving are a son, James Earl Gibson and wife Cheryl, Lily; a daughter, Margaret Holden and husband Dave, Morgantown, Ind.; a brother, Ernest Gibson, Wrens, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Kevin Gibson and fiancée Carrie O’Donnell, David Holden, Tina Eckhart and husband Bruce, Anne Alloway and husband Tom, Linda Pape and husband Tim, Lorie York and husband Scott, Tammy Ashjian and husband Brittan, and Michelle Quartermaine and husband Keith; and a friend, May Ruth Bentley.

Graveside services were held December 1 at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Ind.

Everidge Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
