Educational summit set

Forward in the Fifth will host an educational summit on March 5 in Hazard. Opinions and ideas gathered at the summit — which is open to the public and will be held at the University Center of the Mountains from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — will be used to help craft program and policy decisions at the local, regional, and state levels, according to Jim Tackett, executive director of Forward in the Fifth.

Attendees will discuss the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS); drop-out prevention/ intervention; home schooling; and remediation rates.

U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers, (KY- 05), and other regional leaders were instrumental in forming Forward in the Fifth, an affiliate of The Center for Rural Development, in order to raise the educational levels of residents in Kentucky’s Fifth Congressional District.

The summit is free and open to the public, but spots are limited. Contact Jim Tackett at 606-677- 6000 or via e-mail at jtackett@centertech.com to register.
