Eugene ‘Bub’ Watts, 84, succumbs

Funeral services for Eugene “Bub” Watts, 84, of Blackey, will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Cedar Grove Old Regular Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Pearl Watts Cemetery at Hallie.

A son of the late Pearl and Cinda Smith Watts, he was the widower of Ethel “Mel” Watts. He later married Joann Halcomb Watts, who survives him. He died August 4 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Terriana, and sisters and brothers, Immagene, Effie, I.D. Pearl Jr., Fred, Lawrence and Joe.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Freddie Watts and wife Linda and Kenneth Watts and wife Vickie, all of Blackey; three daughters, Frances A. Francis and husband David of Bulan, Lois “Net” Smith and husband Jamie of Blackey, and Nancy Hall and husband Terry of Little Cowan; three brothers, Billy Watts of Hallie, and Jay Watts and W.B. Watts, both of Indiana; seven sisters, Sharon Back , Glenna Sunn and Juanita Adams, all of Indiana; Velma Hamilton of Letcher, Sue Gross of Florence, Christine Wooten of Viper, and Virgie Whitaker of Blackey; eight grandchildren, Ben Smith, Ross Smith, Ryan Francis, Kit Issac, Jen Crouse and husband Allen, Tyler Watts and wife Jess, Mel Watts and Keaston Watts; and three great-grandchildren, Waylon Smith, Kynnedi Thompson and Bentlee Crouse.

Letcher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
