Eugene Day marks 90th birthday

Hello folks. By popular demand I am back. So many people have missed my article so I will try to write and when I move to Indiana I will try to combine the two because lots of folks from here have been up there for years so it’s nice to keep people informed.

Lots of stuff going on this month. First of all, my uncle, Eugene Day, turned 90 on May 1. He is married to my mom’s only living sister, Irene, and they have two children, Emma (George) Adams and Francis (Jenny) Day; one grandson, Professor Chris Adams of Berea, and one great-granddaughter, Paige Brown. Keep him and Irene in prayers.

Also having birthdays in May: Linda (Herb) Fields, May 2; Agnes Maggard, May 5; Thomas Wolfe, 38, May 10; Rev. Glen Seaman, May 10; Charles Large, May 13; Jessie Layne Sturgill, 4, May 15; Rae Lynn Jefferson, 5, May 16; Kevin Day, May 17; Sandi Miles, May 17; Paula Maggard, May 18; Helen Scott Tolliver, May 18; Roger Hoskins, May 18; Ella Maggard Pate, May 19; Pat Large, May 20; Adam Sturgill, May 20; Jasmine Fields, May 21; Micki Ratliff Huff, May 21; Loretta Poling, May 22; Erica Demery, 27, May 23; Kenny Ray Harvey, May 23; Kylee Faith Gibson, 5, May 24; Emma Day Adams, May 25; Rose Ballard, May 27; Tommy Bockover, May 28; Joe Maggard, May 29.

Hope all enjoy their day and belated happy birthdays as well.

My great-grandson Lanceton is three months old and is a little chunker at 14 pounds. He is adorable and if everything goes okay I will be a great-grandma to a girl in October.

Prom is over and graduation is upon us. Hope it goes well and congrats to all.

The Steve and Polly Akemon Fields family reunion will be May 28 starting at 11:30 a.m. with lunch around 12:30 p.m. at the Kingscreek Community Park. All family and friends are invited to attend. Everyone bring a meat dish and one or two side dishes such as vegetables, casseroles, salads, etc. Try to attend if you can.

Big Cowan

Cowan Community Storytelling/ Play will be having a short version performing at the Seeds of the Cumberland in Whitesburg. Also, another short performance at the Cowan Music School and full performance at the Mountain Heritage Festival, all happening in June. Watch for the times in future papers. We have a great cast this year and I am sure you all will enjoy.

Happy 90th birthday, Jack Burkich. Hope you had a good time and danced a jig or two. Hello Carl Boggs and Jack Frazier.

My uncle, Isom Fields, came over from Morristown, Tenn., on Saturday. We had a good visit. He had been to the cemetery to decorate for Memorial Day. The graveyard has not been mowed yet. His son Jeff had knee surgery recently but is doing well.

Prayer list: Darrell Holbrook, Jeff Fields, Jeanne Adams, Teresa Sturgill, Mike Fields, Archie Fields, Kathy and Eddie Wolfe, Marty Fields, Dana and Doug Sturgill.

Well folks, time to get off here and turn this in. Until next time have a great week and may God bless all of you. Attend the church of your choice.

Sorry I missed the May- Fest. Too rainy and cold. Hope it went well despite the weather.
