Funeral services were held in Whitesburg December 16 for Eula Ve Joseph, 77.
Joseph, of Whitesburg, will be remembered by many Letcher County residents for her career as a sales representative for Avon beauty products in the 1970s and 1980s. During a time when many eastern Kentucky women still weren’t working outside their homes, she worked to support her two children, first as a door-to-door “Avon lady,” then as a district manager for the firm.
In addition to enjoying the company of her family, including five grandchildren,
Joseph took pleasure in rooting for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, often attending many of the school’s basketball and football games.
Joseph died December 13 at the Whitesburg hospital. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Garnie Rowe Holland.
Survivors include son Michael Joseph and his wife Jackie of Smoot Creek, and daughter Donna Yonts and her husband Joey of Alabama.
Also surviving are three sisters, Shelby Hammonds of Clarksville, Indiana; Devonne (Billy) Profitt of Georgia, and Joann (Pete) Hoffman of Floyds Knob, Indiana.
Five grandchildren — Sarah Joseph, Mary Pike, Hannah Joseph, Dustin Joseph, and Zach Joseph — and four great-grandchildren — Kate, Wyatt, Carter, and Mya — also survive. Brothers Junior Holland, Troy Holland, and Joe Holland, and two sisters, Kaye Gilley and Faye Stacey, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesburg. Burial was in the Whitaker Cemetery at Premium.
