These are several exciting events which will be held at the Letcher County Extension Office or sponsored by the Extension Office in the near future: April 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., – “Spring Fling”; April 24, 9:00 a.m.-2 p.m., “Homemaker Bake Sale”; May 4, 1:30 p.m., “Safe, Healthy & Green”; May 21–22, “Arts & Crafts Workshop”; May 27, 4-6 p.m., “Plant Swap”.
The “Spring Fling” and Homemaker Bake Sale will be sponsored by the County Extension Homemakers.
The “Spring Fling” on Saturday, April 10, will be sale tables with arts and crafts items, gift ideas, “lovingly used” items (such as holiday decorations), baked goodies, etc. The doors at the Extension Office will open to the public at 9 a.m., and there is no charge to come and shop. Anyone who would like to reserve a sale table may call the Extension Office at 633- 2362. Fee for a 10-foot table is $10, with that money going to support the free Ovarian Screening Program in which there are now almost 200 local women participating.
You might find items for Mother’s Day gifts, graduation presents, weddings, etc.
The annual Homemaker Bake Sale will be held at Walmart on Saturday, April 24, beginning at 9 a.m. You will find delicious goodies, candy, cookies, cakes, fried apple pies, etc, that are made by some of the best cooks in Letcher County. Walmart matches a portion of the funds raised, which also supports the Ovarian Screening Program.
The May 4 program “Safe, Healthy & Green,” will be held at the Extension Office and we will include information on safe home cleaning products — some of which you can make yourself to save money and are also safer for the environment. This Extension Homemaker lesson is free to anyone who wants to attend.
The May 21-22 “Arts and Crafts Workshop” will also be held at the County Extension Office, starting at 9 a.m. each day. Classes will include stained glass, painted gourds, basket making and crocheted jewelry. There will be a charge for the classes and you will need to call the County Extension Office at 633-2362 by May 3 to sign up and for more details. Classes are open to anyone who wants to attend.
The “Plant Swap” on May 27 will be from 4-6 p.m. at the County Extension Office. It is free to anyone who wants to participate, but we would like for you to bring three flower plants, flower bulbs, etc. from your yard or flower garden to swap with the others who attend. There will be refreshments, door prizes and lots of fun.
The Letcher County Extension Office is located at 478 Extension Drive, off Stone Avenue and the Whitesburg By-Pass.
