Extension Service offers workshops

Two workshops will be offered by the Letcher County Extension Service — one on saving money and one on arts and crafts.

The first workshop, set for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 20, will give tips on saving money when grocery shopping, nutrition information, gathering and cooking wild greens, making compost heaps, and food preservation (canning, freezing, drying, and pickling).

Lunch will be served at noon. There is no charge to attend, but participants must register by March 13 by calling the Extension Office at 633-2362.

The second workshop will include several sessions from which to choose including basket making, woven stools, knitting on a loom, stained glass, painted gourds, and Carolina snowflake. It will be held April 17 and 18. Participants in the painted gourd class, which costs $8 for a small gourd and $25 for a large gourd, should call by March 16 to register. For more information on other classes or to sign up for a class, call 633-2362. The deadline to register for other classes is April 1.

Both workshops will be held at the Letcher County Extension Office at 478 Extension Drive in Whitesburg, off Stone Avenue and the Whitesburg Bypass.
