Fall festival fun moves to Neon for rest of week



The annual fall festival season will continue in Letcher County this week when “Neon Area Days 2016” kicks off in downtown Neon under the promise or more beautiful weather.

The theme of this year’s two-day festival is “Families Connected Strong & True Generation to Generation.”

The festival will officially kick off with an “opening ceremony” at 11 a.m. in the stage area on Main Street in Neon. That will be followed by the Lil’ Mr. and Miss Neon Pageant at 11:30 a.m., and music beginning at Noon. Here is the rest of the schedule, including musical events set for Friday afternoon:

There will be the annual Tim Hall Memorial Art Contest, and Darrell Wright Memorial Photo Contest at Neon Double Kwik. Contact Mona at 794-6814, or Lula at 855-4739. No professional entries please.

The Community Trust Bank will sponsor a Jam and Jelly contest. Contact Karen Wilder at 832-2077.

Fleming-Neon Library will sponsor a pie-eating contest on Friday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.

Food booths this year
